Bay of Quinte and Picton

Winds were very calm at Prinyers Cove until about 11 when we took off for Ram Island. Robert was driving from Montreal to TO so we planned to meet him at Picton.

The forecast for Friday was for 50+ mm of rain, so we would have to start heading east tomorrow.

We sailed most of the way to Picton, motoring for the last mile and checked in at Prince Edward Yacht Club.

Seems to be a lot of tacking but hopefully the winds do not change so we could got out sans tack.

Robert met us with Swartz's smoked meat and then drove us to the Picton Sobey for provisions.

Afterwards we went for a walk through town stopping at the Acoustic Bar and Grill for burgers and poutine.

Came back to docks.

Prinyers Cove

Panoramic of Prinyers Cove
Got up at 7 and departed at eight with full water and full batteries. Battery no 2 was very low despite an hour of motoring yesterday.

Took off west past Kingston tacking north side of Amherst Island arriving at Prinyers Cove about 2:30. Very nice sail, no it was awesome and amazing sailing.

Tacking in 100 to 200 feet of water and maybe a meter of waves with the 130 head sail .

Met Al on Drumroll at prinyerscovemarina.com/ He strongly recommended visiting the Bay of Quinte. At least until Ram Island.  It was supposed to be very nice sailing and good anchorages.

Safron and I discussed the remainder of our trip. She was eager to see Benoit's concert.

And today I finally got to use the dinghy which towed very well without the transom drain. Motor worked well too.

Supper of Italian ribs and sausages and a bottle of Ontario Sandbank wine. Not our best wine on the trip.

Monday - Sail to Kingston

Day started with dishes from last night and Safron dropping the bag of expensive tea in the dish water.

Ducks at Kingston dock
We depart Lindsay island about 10, sailed to Kingston arriving about 4. Winds were 2 to 8 knots until 3 pm when winds came up to 18 knots. We took off the sails at 16 knots and motored to Kingston. We had full sails.

No space at Kingston. We got ice, water, and disposed of garbage.

We waited at Kingston YC for winds to subside before leaving. In the end, they let us stay at the dock that we arrived upon as long as we agreed to leave by 8am.

We charged boat batteries and noted that battery no 2 was low.  Kept an eye on her for the rest of the trip.

Supper at a mediocre Cambodian Thai restaurant. No comments, just never again.

Talked to Allan about navigation and rendez-vous at Prinyers Cove.  Basically traveling north of Amherst Island.

Stormy Sunday at Lindsay Island

A storm was coming in. Baton down the hatches !

We were well anchored at Lindsay Island.

I washed the waterline again, for the third time this trip. The water lined picked up a lot of slim and black spots.  The same black spots appeared on the dinghy too.

A sailboat came in with the jib flapping very noisily.
The boat was sailed by three women. Two man came out with dinghies to rescue them.  It was exciting to watch.
We beated the boat carpets, it is amazing how much dirt we humans leave behind.

Drinking started at 3:20 pm.

Second storm starts at 4:17pm.

Waiting out the storm

Canoe Point to Gananoque and then Lindsay Island

Saturday morning we got up and realized we need to go to Ganaouque for provisions amongst other things.Safron was most concerned about provision and I was concern about other things.

Canoe Point
We had breakfast under way and got gas,ice and pump out at extraordinary prices at Gordon's Marina, just before Gananoque and then we went  Gananoque Municipal Docks. Safron had some concerns about docking at the high docks, so we commandeered a private dock and she went to see about staying there, but the place was full.

We lingered around and then we saw a 3 hour free dock become available and we grabbed it and went for a walk thru Ganaouque, had lunch at a chip truck, got groceries and spirits and Ice Creme.

Saw Luc there.  He was on vacation too.

We left Gananoque before our three hours expired to look for anchorages and we took the first one we found on Lindsay Island.

Supper of Souvlaki, chips and beer. We were not really hunger after the hot dogs downtown.

Geogina Island to Picnic Point, Grindstone Island

Before leaving, We fueled up the Coleman stove, outboard, alcohol stove and everything else we could think of and inflated the dinghy, we set off at our usual 11 AM departure.

We set sail to Camelot Island but on the way we decided to check out the eastern tip of Grindstone Island and settled on Picnic Point / Canoe Point.

Wonderfully clear water, never seen such pristine waters.  With a lot of time, we swam, napped, had a supper of sausages and peppers with a salad.

We watched a movie and went to bed about 11. First full movie we watched aboard ever.  I cannot even remember the name of the movie, but it was a romance.

Brockville to Georgina island

Got up at 7 and started our day sans eau at the docks.  Brockville Yacht Club apparently shuts off all water at night, so we went to the Metro to buy bottled water.

Oil was checked. There was some oily residue on the bilge.  Looked real funny.  Like hull was excreting an oily substance.  Cleaned it up and it never occurred again.

We got some help to unstuck Cygnus from the tight dock and we took off west at 9am

As we left Brockville, we saw Helix pass us, she was going back home (Montreal).

After an hour, we put up the 130 in 20 knots winds we and tacked to the Small Craft Chanel where at 12:42, we decided to take down the sails after making many precarious maneuvers to avoid having shoals named after us. Lots of shoals on the GPS.

We sailed for almost three hours.

We were texting Drumroll and planned to rendezvous at Georgina Island.

We got there about three and swam and bucketed ourselves, and walked the west side of Georgina Island.  Lots of boats inside the island.  There were only three of us at our dock, east of the international bridge.

We wait for Drumroll who eventually could not make it to Geogina Island.

The next morning the power boat with kid had departed, after being caught by Park Wardens.

Galop Canal and North Chanel to Brockville

Woke up late at Galop Canal.
Breakfast cooked on Coleman stove

Had breakfast of bacon and eggs.

We went for a walk along the canal and took a lot of pictures.  We got ready to depart.  Safron was not so keen about departure.

Weather was gloomy, but not hot or humid. Indecision about weather and waves in the bay delayed our departure.

Oil was fine

Oil OKAY
Hobbs was 2994.1

Motored to the Galop Canal and sailed through the Galop Canal and the north chanel, passed Prescott Ogdensburg International bridge then to Brockville. We watched two big ships near the Prescott Ogensburg bridge.  See video.

ARRIVE at Brockville

We stayed at Brockville Yacht Club.  The dock assigned was tight.  So tight, we had to pull the boat into the slip and shove fenders between us and a powerboat.  There was no gap between the boats..
A tight fit

Had a nice supper at Tandori Mint on King street east. Very nice food and service.

Rebonding with Safran.

Lots of annoying "sand-fleas" at night.
